Devin Haney arrested on alleged gun charge after traffic stop

Devin Haney's name has been in the news a lot over the past 24 hours. Now it appears once again under dubious circumstances this time. Haney was allegedly found in a car with a semi-automatic handgun and arrested in Hollywood, California, on Thursday morning according to TMZ.

This comes on the heels of the undisputed lightweight world champion not being granted an extension by the WBO for a potential vacant junior welterweight title. That would turn into Teofimo Lopez stating in the eleventh hour that he is keeping the WBO junior welterweight title prompting no vacant world title fight, but Lopez would call out Devin Haney in the process via a Twitter rant

Haney was eating at a Hollywood restaurant, Catch LA, before being pulled over. Haney was not driving the car, but a person not named stated that a firearm was in the vehicle. TMZ reported that since no one claimed the gun belonged to them, Haney was arrested due to the fact that Haney owned the car.

A concealed weapon inside a motor vehicle is a felony in the state of California and can carry a sentence of up to one year in prison.

In May of this year, Haney made his second defense of his undisputed lightweight world title against Vasiliy Lomachenko. It was alleged that this was the last fight on his Top Rank Inc. contract. Since then, Haney has not publicly stated what weight class he will fight at next, lightweight or junior welterweight, as well as under what promotional entity he will fight under. Since that fight lightweight Shakur Stevenson, Lomachenko, Teofimo Lopez and Regis Prograis have all called out Haney.

Haney was released per TMZ on Thursday morning on $35,000 bail. He will be back in court for the arrest next month.
