It is clear Gennadiy Golovkin isn’t a fan of his rival, Canelo Alvarez, who he fights for hopefully, a third and final time, this Saturday, September 17th, live on DAZN PPV, taking place from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
According to every metric, Dmitry Bivol outpointed and outboxed Canelo Alvarez, yet Alvarez hasn’t been very forthcoming about that opinion of his debut on DAZN pay-per-view.
“It would not be appropriate for me to suggest what the score might be,” Golovkin told BoxingScene.com via a translator. “I’m not a judge. People probably question my opinion of that anyway, so I don’t want to do that, but Bivol looked better and his win was more convincing than the score reflects. The behavior of his opponent, Canelo, raising his arms after the fight and later saying that he probably lost only a couple of rounds, just shows his loss of touch with reality and his failure to assess things adequately.”
For Golovkin, it seems a big issue has been raised with Canelo on his end. Golovkin appears to feel that Canelo is fake or disingenuous, and gets every benefit of the doubt. From Canelo’s failed drug test to favorable scores in both of his fights with Golovkin, it seems the marquee fighter Canelo gets every benefit of the doubt.
Now Golovkin seems to look at Canelo’s attitude towards his last fight against Bivol, and just think that the fighter might just be flat-out bonkers. As with any good rivalry, it gets settled in the ring, and it is fairly clear neither guy likes the other.
