WBA world lightweight champion, Gervonta Davis, has found himself in custody less than one month after being sentenced to a three-month house detention order for a hit-and-run crash in 2020. Davis was sentenced on May 5th for the incident. The initial reporting of Davis's arrest was reported by the Baltimore Banner.
Baltimore City Sherrif Sam Cogan has confirmed that David was arrested and placed in custody by his deputies following Judge Althea Handy ordering Davis to spend the rest of his sentence in jail. No reason has been given at the time of publication why Davis has been placed in custody. However, wbaltv.com have reported that Davis has been placed in custody due to an alleged house arrest violation.
The attorney for Davis, Michael Tomko, confirmed that his client had been ordered to serve the rest of his sentence in jail following an “impromptu hearing” at 5 pm. Online records supports this, with no court hearing or violation of his sentence being listed or indicated on public record.
Davis, as earlier stated, was sentenced on May 5th for the hit-and-run incident, which had left four people injured, including a pregnant woman. At the time of sentencing, Davis was ordered to stay with his trainer Calvin Ford and complete his ninety days at Ford’s home by Judge Handy.
Davis, alongside his house arrest sentence, was ordered to complete 200 hours of community service, complete a program at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland, and participate in a Mothers Against Drunk Driving victim impact panel.
