GERVONTA DAVIS MAKES HECTOR GARCIA QUIT ON HIS STOOL

It was of some surprise that Gervonta Davis was even able to compete last night in the nation’s capital, Washighton D.C. Mug shots of the WBA Regular Lightweight Champion have been doing the rounds on social media in the weeks preceding his bout with Hector Garcia. As it turns out the Baltimore pound-4-pound star had his name cleared regarding allegations of domestic violence and once again defended his title in good fashion.

Hector Garcia did give Davis some good work up until the 8th round, but a powerful left hand seemed to be the deciding punch in this fight. Davis caught Garcia late in the 8th with the aforementioned left hand. As Albert Earl Brown called an end to the 8th round Garcia was clearly in some trouble and had some difficulty finding his way back to his corner. Garcia would not make it out for the 9th round. Gervonta Davis moves to 28-0, while Dominican Hector Garcia suffered his first career defeat with his record now standing at 16-1. A tormentous month for the WBA Lightweight belt holder to say the very least, but it all ended in smiles for the man from Baltimore.

“It felt great to be back home and fight in-front of a beautiful crowd and tonight was definitely a big event. I thought boxing won tonight.” Said Davis in the post fight press conference.

Talk naturally turns towards - Who is next for the knockout artist?

“If it was up to me? Ryan (Garcia) is definitely next! We somewhat got everything going in the right direction and we are just waiting for Ryan to accept on his side and let’s get the job done.”

The lightweight division is in a great place at the moment, the likes of Devin Haney and Vasyl Lomachenko are opponents that the fans would undoubtedly celebrate. However the talk centres around fellow American, Ryan Garcia. Oscar De La Hoya tweeted his support for Davis ahead of last night’s bout and reiterated that Ryan Garcia will be waiting for Davis after the fight. Gervonta Davis responded with calm and a smile.

“They want that money! That’s what it is, they are ready to get that money. I appreciate him wishing me luck.”
