Gary Russell Jr No Longer A Featherweight, Seeks Big Fight

Gary Russell Jr. reigned as a WBC featherweight champion for a half-a-decade and fight essentially once-a-year during that span.

After his loss to Mark Magsayo, Russell Jr. told BoxingScene.com that he has left that division.

“There’s no need to stay at 26,” said Russell when speaking exclusively with BoxingScene.com “To be honest, 30, 35, I don’t know, we’ll see.”

It is clear that Gary Russell Jr., is actively seeking only the biggest fights and will move up in weight to pursue these fights. From Leo Santa Cruz, Hector Luis Garcia, to even bouts with fighters such as Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz or Frank Martin, all of whom seem like possibly opponents for Russell in the future.
