Mykell Gamble controlled Damian Alcala over the distance to continue an undefeated start to his career on ProBox TV’s Wednesday Night Fights in Plant City, Florida.
Both men started the fight offensively, hitting the center of the ring with intent in the six round featherweight contest. Alcala’s jittery pressure proved to be his weakness with Gamble landing a counter right hand, but the Mexican took it well to resume coming forward with little care. Gamble was setting up the left hand well, under spider-like pressure from Alcala. Gamble got behind his jab and the straight left to see a calm end to the opening round.
Alcala started the second round on the attack, swinging wildly with a widely missed combination. Gamble got on the back foot in response. Alcala’s bully-tactics were not going to plan so far. The Mexican was being caught regularly, but Gamble was struggling with precision. Alcala had one plan, to walk forward in the hope of drowning out his adversary with pressure though. Gamble had more ideas.
Gamble started the third round with a good jab. Alcala was caught by the uppercut as he advanced on the American. The pressure had dipped from Alcala who had appeared to have gained more respect for the man standing in front of him. Gamble largely controlled the round under his directive, setting the pace to land his combinations.
The fourth round saw Gamble take the initiative, bullying his man to the ropes in the opening seconds. However, Alcala controlled the next 60 seconds with his usual pressure. Gamble landed a right jab followed by a nice left hand. Alcala continued to march on regardless, he took an uppercut for his troubles. Alcala had re-asserted his attack tactics after taking the third round off. Another uppercut landed on the Mexican close to the final minute, Alcala’s pressure subsided immediately after. Gamble landed a straight left to the body, shortly followed by a snappy left to the head.
Round five began with two quick left hands to Alcala’s head. Gamble controlled the next minute, landing the ever-present counter-right uppercut. The American got cut with just under half the round to play. However, he continued to control the on-coming Alcala with composure. Gamble landed another two counter uppercuts to close out the round.
The sixth and final round saw much of the same with Gamble continuing to control his opponent, mixing up his jab and straight left with the right uppercut. The American moved well throughout, landing a smart combination in the corner with half the round left. Gamble landed an eye-catching counter right hook with 45 seconds left in the bout.
All three judges scored unanimously for Gamble at 60-54, not giving a single round to Alcala. Gamble improves his record to 7-0 (4 KOs), a second consecutive win on ProBox TV. In stark comparison, Alcala picks up a second straight defeat on WNF. His record moves to 7-4.
