Gabriel Flores Jr. defeats Ronal Ron by unanimous decision

Gabriel Flores Jr. triumphed in the first-ever boxing event at Banner Island Ballpark, in Stockton, Calif., his hometown winning an eight-round unanimous decision over Ronal Ron in the main event. Judges scored the bout 78-74, 78-74, and 79-73, all in Flores' favor.

Flores (24-2, 8 KOs) showed improvements in his performance, blending defense and offense smoothly. With Nonito Donaire as assistant coach and his father, Gabe Flores Sr., as the lead voice, Flores had to dig deep for his hometown crowd. Ron (14-7, 11 KOs), 27, of Venezuela, landed telling blows in the seventh round, forcing Flores to show his merit as a prizefighter – which he did.

Flores aims to return to Adventist Health Arena in Stockton this fall, according to sources close to the promotion.

In the co-feature, Chicago’s Andrew Rogers (9-12-3, 3 KOs), 32, won a unanimous decision over Julian Rodarte (19-2-1, 8 KOs), 28, of Downey, Calif. The scores were 77-75 on all three cards. Rogers, known for upsetting fighters with strong records, added Rodarte to his list of victories.

For Rodarte, who lost to Flores in March, this marks his second straight loss in a row.

Lightweight Lorenzo Powell (2-0, 1 KO) of Sacramento, Calif., recorded a first-round knockout of Ethan Rowan (0-2) of Minnesota. Referee Edward Collantes stopped the bout in 51 seconds.

Junior bantamweight Andrew Rodriguez (4-0, 1 KO) of Salinas, Calif., won a majority decision over Alejandro Robles (0-4) of Modesto, Calif. The scores were 40-36, 39-37, and 38-38. Rodriguez, who suffered a cut above his eye, had previously won against Robles in an amateur fight.

Junior featherweight Ab Lozano (2-0, 2 KOs) of Martinez, Calif., continued his knockout streak, stopping Rod Sarguilla (2-6, 1 KO) of the Philippines.

The card was G-Squad Entertainment’s second show of 2024.
