Leave it up to WBC & Ring Magazine heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs) to stir the pot on this slow news week. On an Instagram post that hit social media about 30 minutes ago, ‘The Gypsy King’ took a shot at the current unified champion Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs). Fury posted a picture with his trunks up to his chest with the caption “Kit leak” and a Bob Marley song titled “Them Belly Full” tagged to the post.
This is a clear shot at Usyk, who was the subject of a highly discussed low blow by Daniel Dubois in their heavyweight title fight this past weekend. Usyk went down from the shot, and some felt the punch was low, while others thought it was a legal hit. Dubois was stopped but, after the fight, contested that it was a legal blow and that he was robbed of a victory. His promoter, Frank Warren, mentioned that he would contest it with the hopes of getting a rematch. The contract had no rematch clause, and the only way Dubois would get one was if he could get it granted by a ruling.
As for Fury, he has a scheduled fight, which is more of a spectacle against former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou on October 28. The event will stream live on ESPN+ PPV in the states, and TNT Sports Box Office in the U.K. Fury is currently training for that fight while promoting his Netflix reality show At Home with the Furys. The 35-year-old lineal champion is a showman and will find ways to promote his brand leading up to the PPV in October. Let’s hope that after the Ngannou fight, we can finally get the undisputed fight everyone has been waiting for Fury vs. Usyk.
