Sebastian Fundora has earned his way in the division, after his knockout win over Erickson Lubin earlier this year, Fundora will headline Showtime Championship Boxing for the second time in his career, as the Southern California native will headline an October 8th, Showtime card lives from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, as the main fight of a triple header.
“I showed the fans what I was made of in my last fight. It wasn’t really what I learned. My goal was to display myself and what I’m capable of for the fans. I really wanted to show who I am in this division. I’m serious about becoming world champion,” said Fundora. “I think that Ocampo is a strong Mexican fighter like me, so of course he’s going to come to bang. This is the perfect fight not just for the fans in Southern California, but for everyone watching.”
The bout will be Fundora’s first defense of his WBC interim 154 lbs title that he won against Erickson Lubin, and would make him the mandatory opponent to face the winner of Jermell Charlo vs. Tim Tszyu if he is able to beat Carlos Ocampo, a former Errol Spence Jr. opponent on Showtime Championship Boxing.
“I want to fight for the title and I feel like I deserve that. I’m the WBC mandatory and of course I have to get past Ocampo first. But our goal is to fight for the title,” said Fundora. “When it comes to the ring I feel like my Mexican blood comes out. I’m learning more about the Mexican culture and I’m excited to face another Mexican fighter. Two Mexicans headlining on SHOWTIME is great for Southern California.”
Of note, Fundora will also have his sister, Gabriela Fundora featured on the undercard of this bout, which is featured on Showtime Sports YouTube channel.
