Frank Warren is confident that all parties involved in the proposed fight between WBC world champion Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua can resolve the major elephant in the room regarding the proposed battle of Britain heavyweight showdown. Broadcast issues still remain prevalent due to both Fury and Joshua being signed to different broadcast partners in BT Sport/ESPN for the former and DAZN for the latter. This is alongside the fact that both fighters are signed to different promotional companies which form the triangle of Warren/Top Rank (Fury) & Eddie Hearn of Matchroom on behalf of Joshua. Warren and Hearn have for many years very rarely spoken directly nevermind made cross-promotional fights with the only exceptions being via purse bids. Hearn and Top Rank supremo Bob Arum have made cross-promotional fights in recent years however relations have since become frosty in recent years.
However, diplomacy is being maintained following Anthony Joshua’s provisional acceptance of the encounter with Fury, rumoured to take place on December 3rd in Cardiff with the split also agreed on 60/40 in favour of Fury and 50/50 in any rematch scenario. Warren has confirmed that a contract has been seen sent to Joshua but is yet to receive a signed agreement. Despite this Warren is confident that if there are any issues can be resolved.
“Both boxers have agreements with broadcasters and everybody is going to have a grownup conversation and make it work,” Warren told SecondsOut.com.
“I’m not going to get into the details of the contract,” Warren said. “Let them look at the contract. They may or may not have any points to make about it. But the terms, the most important terms, the percentages, if there is a rematch that percentage is agreed, and the date is agreed. The rest of it I’m sure will get sorted out because everybody wants it to happen"
Recent reporting has suggested that Anthony has until the end of this week to sign for the proposed bout.
