Frank Sanchez Awaits World Title Fight

Heavyweight Frank Sanchez is nearing a world title shot, after stopping Carlos Negron in the ninth round of their scheduled ten-round fight on as part of the Deontay Wilder vs. Robert Helenius fight from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

"I knew that the last three rounds I was going to step on the gas and knock him out late,” said Sanchez.

Sanchez, now trained by Joe Goossen, as he left Eddy Reynoso, who he was training with previously gradually began to pick it up late in the fight.

"We knew that Negron was going to be tough and he definitely gave it his all,” said Sanchez. “He was tough for nine rounds, but the knockout was inevitable. I have nothing but respect for Negrón, he fought a good fight. I just did what I had to do.”

Currently ranked #3 in the world by the WBO and the WBC, Sanchez is confident a world title shot is in the near future, with a #1 contender bout coming as soon his next bout.

"I'm a highly-rated fighter, so I feel like a mandatory shot for the world title is coming,” said Sanchez. “I'm just looking forward to fighting the best that the division has to offer. Hopefully, the fans will get to see me in those big fights next year."
