Former World Champion Jeison Rosario Retires From Boxing

The former unified 154 lbs world champion, who knocked out Julian “J-Rock” Williams, in Williams’ Philadelphia homecoming, is calling it a day in terms of his boxing career.

“I think it’s time to say goodbye,” Rosario said after his knockout loss this past weekend. “I’m not fighting anymore. I’m going to retire. I have accomplished a lot, and it was good, but my career stops here. The most important thing is that I’m still healthy. I feel bad that I couldn’t give the Dominican people the result they hoped for, but I love you all and I thank you for all the support through the years.”

Rosario was knocked out by Brian Mendoza in the fifth round of the co-main event of this past weekend’s Showtime telecast. Rosario had a good run, one that saw him headline a pay-per-view with Jermell Charlo, and will leave the sport on his own terms which is nice to see.
