Felix Sturm Returns To Prison For Tax Evasion

Two-weight world champion, Felix Sturm, has been returned to prison for tax evasion and is to serve two years and four months, according to the German publication Bild. It is also noted that he has also been imprisoned on German anti-doping laws, according to the public prosecutor, Stephanie Beller.

"I can confirm that the person has been in open custody since February 28. The verdict at that time was: Two years and four months for tax evasion and violation of the anti-doping law."

The original sentence for the crime comes from 2019 for tax evasion totalling 5.8 million euros, and he served eight months in custody at the time. Sturm was only released after paying three hundred thousand euros along with handing over his passports. Following an appeal, the tax evasion claim was reduced to one million euros.

In addition to the allegations of tax evasion, Sturm is said to have been doped with the banned drug stanozolol (which supports muscle building) on February 20, 2016, in his world championship fight against Fedor Chudinov. The German government passed new laws in 2015 which made it illegal for athletes, coaches and managers who use or acquire banned performance-enhancing substances. If caught, the offence could be punishable with prison time.

Sturm was recently in action on February 18th against Sukru Altay in Stuttgart and claimed a controversial points decision verdict.
