Ahead of his showdown with Anthony Joshua this past Saturday, fight week for Jermaine Franklin involved some controversy regarding his promoter Dmitriy Salita. Franklin filed a lawsuit with his promoter one week out from the fight, however Salita did stand firm as the week proceeded.
Jarrell Miller (26-0-1, 22 KOs) who currently works under Salita's stewardship, gave his opinion on the fallout between both Salita and Franklin.
“I had similar problems with Salita before.” Miller said. “I feel Salita definitely plays off the contract and his ego in so many different ways. I got two more fights with him, I’m ready for us to go our separate ways. We have gone through lawsuits and litigation together.
Miller continued on how the business of boxing was ever-changing and was open-minded on his future with Salita, despite previous legal problems.
“I think I’ll leave after two fights.” Miller added. “However, Salita might come in with a major lucrative deal. If that doesn’t come, I’ll be out of here.
“It has been a constant battle between me and him for years, but me and him are actually cool. I still think of him as a friend. We’ve had our beef before, but this is business. Do you know what I’m trying to say? He’s not putting on big shows at the moment, other companies are doing that. Why would I pay a middleman who is doing no work.”
Miller went on with his view on the Franklin/Salita case, comparing it to his own situation.
“I think if you are a smaller promoter who has put in the work to try and get you to the big shows, then yes, Salita deserves to be compensated for that. My case is very different, I’ve been a co-promoter of myself for a longtime. There are just a few things in my contract I don’t like.
“But no hard feelings, I’m just saying I could do this shit without them. I want to go in another direction. Unless there is big money on the table, there is no reason for me to be with a middleman.”
