Anthony Joshua got back to winning in a lopsided points victory over Jermaine Franklin in London tonight. Joshua recovered from back-to-back defeats over Oleksandr Usyk, with Franklin picking up his second straight defeat on British soil.
As the critics come in, American heavyweight Jarrell Miller could be one of the harshest.
“He looked like shit.” Miller said while holding back his laughter. “Come on bro, like I said before he looked scared to pull the trigger. He’s definitely scared of getting hit on the chin and if Franklin had a little more power, AJ would be sat on his ass a couple of times. But Franklin is well known for not having power, he’s know for not being heavy-handed, he’s known for being a small heavyweight.
A lot has been made of Joshua’s change in trainer and the move to Houston to link up with Derrick James. Miller gave his view.
“I’m not going to put all the pressure on Derrick.” Miller added. “Derrick is a phenomenal trainer! You know styles make fights, Is Derrick the right trainer for AJ right now? I mean he won, just, time will tell. You can’t teach old dogs new tricks, especially when he don’t have the heart. Derrick has Errol Spence and Rob Bryant, but Joshua just don’t have their swag.
“How far James can take him remains to be seen. Derrick James is a phenomenal trainer, I just don’t know if AJ can implement what Derrick will teach him all the way. It’s a tough job.”
