The biggest fight in boxing between Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) and Errol Spence Jr. (28-1, 22 KOs), which took place on July 29, will get a rematch as Spence Jr., according to Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre, activated the rematch clause. But that isn’t news, as that was widely reported a few weeks ago. What is news would be the latest updates on the rematch as no details have been made public. Earlier today, Mike Coppinger posted a video from his segment on ESPN discussing the rematch but didn’t have much to add to what we already know.
Errol Spence Jr. exercised the rematch clause for a return bout with Terence Crawford and said afterward he’d like the fight at 154 pounds, but it remains to be seen what weight they meet at.

Contractually, the winner of the first fight picks the weight for the rematch. If… pic.twitter.com/KubUGiCddD
Coincidentally, ProBoxTV had a conversation with Showtime Sports Executive Stephen Espinoza, and one of the topics that were brought up involved the rematch between Crawford and Spence Jr. Espinoza told ProBoxTV, “Not yet (regarding a projected date window for the rematch). We’ve just started talking about the details like the bout arrangements. What weight and date are still under discussion so that one remains TBD whether it is late this year or early next year and what the exact bout arrangements are going to be.”
Espinoza’s comments seem to lead to the fight potentially landing in the first quarter of 2024 instead of a date towards the end of the year, as rumored. Although there is a contract for a second fight, who’s to say that it gets made. Plenty can happen, and there is always a possibility that the rematch doesn’t happen and both men go their separate ways. It is a situation that should be monitored closely to see if things get ironed out, and if they do, I expect that fight to happen around February or March.
While Spence Jr. has taken some time to spend with his family, Crawford recently used this slow news week to drop some posts on X and let everyone know how he feels about some of the interviews being conducted with Danny Garcia and Keith Thurman. Since Crawford’s massive victory in July, we’ve seen more of him, whether it’s a media hit or on social media, which only helps his brand as a whole. Here are some of Crawford’s tweets from the last few days.

It looks like we aren’t close to getting a confirmation on Crawford vs. Spence 2, but in the meantime, watch Crawford’s social media timeline as he is getting what he called during the pre-fight press conference in July “active.”
