Sergey Kovalev is widely considered one of the better light heavyweights of the last fifteen years. Kovalev has been very inactive in recent memory fighting only two times in the past four years with a KO loss to Canelo Alvarez, and an impressive cruiserweight debut getting a unanimous decision win over Tervel Pulev in May 2022.
Recently, ProBox TV News caught up with Kovalev’s manager, Egis Klimas who explained what the goal is for Kovalev at this stage in his career. It appears clear that Kovalev’s team is eyeing a big fight overseas as his next bout.
Badou Jack knocked out Ilunga Junior Makabu in the twelfth and final round of their scheduled twelve-round world title fight, which took place in February 2023, taking place at the Diriyah Arena, Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. The win made Badou Jack a three-division world champion, as he has held the WBC super middleweight title, WBA light heavyweight title, and now the WBC cruiserweight world title.
“Badou Jack is a mid-east guy, so we are willing to go in that direction, [if we are] given the opportunity.”
If the bout can get made it would pit the two biggest names in the cruiserweight division against each other in a fight that should be somewhat meaningful to the sporting world.
