Eddie Hearn address the Tyson Fury supposed 'contract', Leigh Wood & More

Almost every week, The DAZN Boxing Show hosts Ak & Barak have Eddie Hearn as a guest to discuss the latest news coming out of Matchroom and any rumors that have gained traction on social media. The latest rumors have come from the WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs), who posted that he sent a contract to former unified champion Anthony Joshua (25-3, 22 KOs) for a fight this year.

So the question came up, is it true? Hearn told Ak & Barak, “No truth in that. He didn’t send the contract to us, 258 Management, or Anthony Joshua. What happened was George Warrington sent us an email to say, ‘Look, we would like to talk about a fight in September with the same terms as last time.’ We had some positive conversations. I told him straight up we are planning our fight in August, and we are planning to fight Deontay Wilder in December.”

Hearn continued, “We’ll see what happens in Saudi (Arabia) this week. They want the Deontay Wilder (43-2-1, 42 KOs) fight. AJ (Anthony Joshua) has that in his head. It’s a huge money fight, and he has that fight in August to get him ready with Derrick James. That’s the plan, and we aren’t going to deviate from that plan on the basis of Instagram hope, but it’s also my job to go through that process and see how real that opportunity is.”

Once again, it sounds like Fury is taking everyone along for the ride, as he has supposedly challenged a few fighters in the last few weeks. When it comes to Fury, we will all believe it once a press release is sent out with a date, venue, and opponent.

Hearn touched on undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney (30-0, 15 KOs), calling him the other day about facing WBC super lightweight champion Regis Prograis (28-1, 24 KOs). Hearn also spoke about his fighter, WBA featherweight champion Leigh Wood who avenged his loss to Mauricio Lara by beating him unanimously. Ak & Barak asked Hearn if he thought Wood would reach the mountain top again.

Hearn said, “I’d be honest. I didn’t think he could do it. There were times he lost for the British title. Even when he won the British title, I never thought he would arguably be the number one featherweight on the planet. He’s 35 years old, but Ben Davidson has done an unbelievable job. He’s kept believing in himself and has learned from his losses and setbacks. I see that from a lot of fighters these days as they educate themselves through their troubles throughout their career.”

Hearn then goes into Errol Spence Jr. & Terence Crawford, along with visiting Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in the coming days as they try to reach an agreement for the Dmitry Bivol rematch. You can watch the the latest episode of The DAZN Boxing show here.
