Promoter Eddie Hearn & Undefeated heavyweight Frazer Clarke (6-0, 5KOs) have clashed regarding a possible British heavyweight title between Clarke and current British heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley (16-0, 15KOs).
The British Boxing Board of Control recently ordered Wardley to defend his British title against Clarke, making him the mandatory challenger despite only having six professional fights.
However, it was recently announced by promotional entity Boxxer, that Clarke would return to the ring on June 10th at the York Hall in London. This announcement annoyed Hearn, who thought a purse bid situation would commence in the next few weeks and did not expect Clarke to return to action before fighting with Wardley. If a deal cannot be agreed upon, Purse bids will commence on May 10th. Hearn did admit when speaking to IFLTV that he would scupper the prospect of Wardley-Clarke if Clarke pursues his return to the ring on June 10th when questioned alongside Clarke in Cardiff on Saturday night.
“I know what Frazer wants, we just want clarity, that’s all. We don’t want to fight anyone else other than Frazer Clarke.”
“We just want confirmation that you’re not fighting June 10th, because if you are then we are going to fight someone else.”
“Imagine getting ordered to fight for a world title and then saying “oh can you wait for me?”
Clarke, in response, stated that Hearn does not make the rules and that Hearn will not decide on who and when he fights next.
“This ain’t a world title, though. You don’t make the rules.”
“What Eddie’s saying there are his rules. Eddie’s a good guy and a good promoter, but he doesn’t make the rules in boxing.”
“Whether I do have another fight before or I don’t, I’m still mandatory challenger for the British title.”
