The build up to this Saturday's 168 pound WBC interim title fight between David Benavidez and Caleb Plant has had its fair share of bad-blood, insults have been thrown by both fighters.
The official press conference saw both men take a more calculated approach when it came to bad mouthing each other.
The wide-eyed former world champion (22-1, 13 KOs) had stern words for Benavidez "You are supposed to be on weight! I bought my mouthpiece and my cup with me this week, but I don't need a pat on the back for it. Welcome to the club! You got your new found muscles you have been showing off. That's what happens when you work hard, I don't need the right opponent in front of me to say - Hey, I got the right guy in front of me this time. I'm gonna get after it now."
Plant continued with his lecture "I don't need the right opponent for me to give it my best. I've been doing that my whole life since I was a little kid. So, Saturday night you got a real one in-front of you. I'm not some blown up 154 pounder, I'm not a 160 pounder blown up with two weeks notice. I'm the real deal, I promise you that!"
The 26-0 former WBC champion responded “He’s digging his own grave. We going to see Saturday night what that chin look like.”
The mood got little more tense as the official press conference drew to a close, the pair started talking over each other. “You got dropped by Ronald Gavril” stated Plant as Benavidez bragged at “becoming a world champion at 20 years old.”
Plant guaranteed that “His hand would get raised on Saturday night.” Whereas Benavidez went a step further with “They will see me break Caleb Plant’s fucking jaw on Saturday night!”
