WBA world heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois (19-1, 18KOs) has parted ways with Shane McGuigan, as reported by sources close to the situation. Dubois, who is the mandatory challenger to Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13KOs), will now link up with Don Charles, the trainer of Dereck Chisora. Charles, the trainer of Chisora, has collected British, Commonwealth, and European heavyweight titles and supported Chisora’s challenge for the WBC world heavyweight title in 2012 against Vitali Klitschko.
Caroline Dubois, who returns to action on June 16th, will remain with Shane McGuigan and will now forge her route in the professional ranks without her brother by her side.
The parting of the sibling pair and McGuigan comes following a family rift between Daniel & Caroline, with details as to the reasoning of the split unclear other than it being labelled as a “family dispute.”
Under the tutelage of McGuigan, Daniel would successfully claim the WBA’s secondary world title and, therefore, the WBA’s mandatory challenger to face the unified world heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk. Dubois would halt Trevor Bryant inside four rounds in June of 2022 before a successful title defence in December against Kevin Lerena inside three rounds. The WBA has confirmed that purse bids will take place on May 25th if no deal can be agreed upon between both parties, with the bidding process to be held in Houston, Texas.
Caroline Dubois (6-0, 5KOs), a Tokyo 2022 Olympian and undefeated lightweight, will next be in action at York Hall, London. Unbeaten in her six outings as a professional, Caroline will face former world title challenger Yanina del Carmen Lescano live on Sky Sports as Boxxer manoeuver Caroline closer towards title contention.
