Terence Crawford shook up the boxing world when he announced his next fight against David Avanesyan, as opposed to Errol Spence Jr., and now the welterweight world champion, who fights on BLK Prime, on December 10th.
Yet, Crawford is highly critical of Errol Spence Jr., if he does in fact face Keith Thurman next.
“A lotta people say, ‘Oh, well, why he didn’t fight ‘Boots?’ Or, ‘Why he didn’t fight Ortiz?’ Well, them names never came up. I would've fought them names in a heartbeat. Come on, man. I’m the best fighter in the world. Who do you think I am? Who do you think I am? I’m the best fighter in the world. I’ve always fought my mandatories. I ain’t never ducked my mandatories. But, you know, and still I hear through the grapevine Spence is about to fight a guy that he promised and he swear that he wasn’t gonna fight, which is Keith Thurman,” said Crawford from IG live conversation from roughly a week ago. “Now, I don’t know how true that is, but that’s what’s floatin’ around. So, what’s up with the trueness with that? You swear up and down that you’re not gonna fight this guy, you don’t care what nobody say. Now, you about to fight him. So, that means you was lyin’, buddy. But you know why he gotta fight Thurman? You wanna know why, fans? Because of the money. It’s all about the money. Come on, now. He not gonna make that much money fighting Ortiz or ‘Boots.’ Come on, man, it’s obvious. Who is Spence gonna fight, besides me, that’s gonna make, you know, $20 million? Nobody.”
Crawford who got a lot of backlash from fans who wanted to see Crawford vs. Spence now seems frustrated that the same criticism he faced is not what Spence is potentially getting for his bout. As Crawford pointed out, if this is the match-up for Spence next, it is one that Spence stated he wouldn’t do.
If you didn’t know already boxing is a favoritism game, and the whole Crawford vs. Spence situation shows that.
