It all started with a clever promotional video by Matchroom Boxing to announce an event headlined by their IBF super featherweight champion Joe Cordina (16-0, 9 KOs). Towards the end of the clip, it was announced that he would face Edward Vazquez (15-1, 3 KOs), and now we are at fight week. The card will stream live on DAZN this weekend, with Cordina looking at potential unification fights next year but must first get past Vazquez.
Cordina was last in the ring about seven months ago when he earned a split decision over Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov in Cardiff. Cordina wants all the big names in the division and will keep an eye on next week as former super featherweight champion Jamel Herring returns to action. It’s a fight Cordina is interested in doing but must first get through Vazquez before discussing any other fight.

Vazquez has been busy this year, and it’ll be the third time he gloves up, which often bodes well for the more active fighter. Vazquez doesn’t have big punching power, so more than likely, he will have to rely on his boxing ability to get him a decision in Monte Carlo.
