Jermall Charlo training with Roy Jones Jr. in FL & eyeing October return

Things always seem to get interesting late at night on social media, and yesterday was no different. WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs) has been in the news the past couple of months as he looks to return to the ring after a two-year hiatus due to personal problems.

Charlo was last seen at the Terence Crawford vs. Errol Spence Jr. fight, which not only resulted in his fellow Texan being beaten but the day prior, his girlfriend/fiancée and his brother Jermell’s wife got into a fight in a video that Crawford’s sister captured and posted on social media. The two brothers haven’t been on speaking terms since, as eluded by Jermell in recent media scrums in support of his fight against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

Jermall Charlo has posted videos in the gym working out, which leads everyone to believe that an announcement of his official return will be released in the coming weeks. While we wait for that, Charlo posted on his Instagram stories last night that he’s “training in the dungeon with Roy Jones Jr.” and with “October” typed towards the bottom of the video. Then he later thanked Roy Jones Jr. for “mentoring him” and said that he loves the people of Pensacola, FL. In his last post, he says, “3 hours straight. Late nights. He’s back.”

This is good news for fans of Jermall Charlo, who have been waiting a long time to see their guy back in the ring. The rest of the middleweight division is likely also happy as the title has been hung up with him being out for the last two years. Charlo getting some basic work in with Jones Jr. tells us that he knows a lot of work must be done to return to his dominating ways. Who will Charlo face as his first fight back? Will it be at middleweight or super middleweight? Plenty of questions to be asked as the 33-year-old champion looks to return to his winning ways.
