Former WBC world flyweight champion, Charlie Edwards, has called out his brother, Sunny, to come head-to-head in the ring. Sunny, who holds the IBF world flyweight title, was announced as one of the latest additions to the Matchroom boxing stable following his split from the now-defunct promotional company, Probellum. Sunny (19-0, 4KOs) has held the IBF title since 2021 after dethroning the previous holder, Moruti Mthalane (40-3, 26KOs), in which Sunny claimed the title via unanimous decision. Sunny has since had three successful title defences, with his most recent coming in November of last year, in which he claimed a narrow unanimous points verdict against Felix Alvarado.
Charlie, who held the WBC world flyweight title between 2018-2019, was previously signed to Matchroom boxing; however, he split from Matchroom and joined Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions. Edwards split from Queensberry and has now relocated to the North West of England is now trained and managed by Joe Gallagher. Charlie, the older of the pair, holds a record of seventeen wins against one defeat with seven stoppages.
Charlie took to social media to congratulate his brother on signing with Matchroom Boxing before stating that if he wants a big-money fight, Eddie Hearn should call him and make the fight between the brothers.
