Jack Catterall vs. Jorge Linares: Preview, Prediction & Betting Odds

Matchroom Boxing & DAZN host a junior welterweight fight from the Echo Arena in Liverpool, U.K. Jack Catterall (27-1, 13 KOs) wants to get back into the title picture at 140 pounds, but before reaching that opportunity, he must first get passed the veteran Jorge Linares (47-8, 29 KOs). On Saturday night, it’s a fight with two very different paths for the winner and loser.

JACK CATTERALL GETS A STAY-BUSY FIGHT AND A QUALITY NAME UNDER HIS BELT FOR SATURDAY

After everything Catterall has been through with the Josh Taylor situation, he’s ready to move on and get his opportunity elsewhere. While he seeks another title shot, this fight with Linares will give him some good experience against a world-class fighter who is past his prime. This will be his second fight for 2023, and if victorious, it should line him up for another title opportunity next year.

What does Catterall have to do to win? He needs to apply pressure and smother Linares early, forcing the 38-year-old to run out of gas and make himself vulnerable later in the fight. The key to getting Linares out of there late is dedicating his offense to the body from the start and cutting off the ring to get him out of his rhythm. Catterall should look to stop Linares and get the rub of a name-fighter on his quest to a world title.

JORGE LINARES ISN’T ‘EL NINO DE ORO’ ANYMORE AND IT WILL SHOW ON SATURDAY NIGHT

As the old saying goes, Father time is undefeated, and Linares will be the latest victim this weekend. It isn’t new news, and after three straight losses, this will be the one that more than likely sends Linares into retirement. He’s 38 years old, and all of the fancy mitt work in the world won’t be able to regain what he once had as a lightweight champion. Linares has had a great career, but going further after this fight will only hurt his legacy.

For Linares to win this fight, he must rely on stamina and his boxing skills to work his way towards a decision victory. Stamina will be hard to maintain at his age, and it hasn’t been his strong suit for the last couple of years. Linares isn’t going to knock out Catterall, and it’s going to be hard to keep up with him for 12 rounds, so his chances of winning this fight are slim to none.

JACK CATTERALL VS. JORGE LINARES PREDICTION

Linares has seen his best days, and although those snazzy IG videos have gotten him a high-profile fight, it won’t help when it comes to fight night. Catterall will break down Linares and stop him around the ninth round.
