Veteran Heavyweight Carlos Takam rolled back the years this past Saturday in Paris with a commanding victory over Olympic gold medalist Tony Yoka. The Cameroonian/Frenchman improved his record to 40-7-1 with a split decision win after ten rounds. The scorecards all read 96-94, one judge scoring in favour of Yoka and two for Takam.
The 42 year old put an end to a two fight losing streak having been stopped by Joe Joyce in the summer of 2021 and then lost by unanimous decision to the undefeated Russian Arslanbek Makhmudov in Montreal last September.
Talk obviously turns too; What is next for the well travelled fighter? There has already been mention of a fight with last man who defeated Tony Yoka, Martin Bakole. However, it is another British fighter that Takam has politely called out.
Carlos Takam told IFL TV post fight in Paris
“I really want to come back to the UK to fight. It’s one of my ambitions. I fought everyone in the UK. I fought Chisora, I fought AJ. I really want to fight that big boy, Dillian Whyte. That’s going to be a good fight, a good test for me.”
Carlos Takam is no stranger to fighting in the UK. Takam has fought, Anthony Joshua, Dereck Chisora, Joe Joyce and Senad Gashi in The UK, the only victory coming against Sand Gashi.
The 42 year old certainly shows no signs of retiring just yet after his big win in Paris. A match up with Dillian is definitely not out of the question, he may just get his wish.
