Canelo's PBC deal worth $100million while Hearn thinks Canelo's switch to PBC is a good move

Canelo Alvarez, as announced by himself, has reportedly signed a promotional deal with Premier Boxing Champions and stepping away from his relationship with Matchroom Boxing and Eddie Hearn moving forward, certainly for the immediate future. Matchroom Boxing/DAZN has been involved in Canelo’s career as far back as 2018, when the British promotional entity was working alongside Golden Boy Promotions on a co-promotional basis.

Alverez famously took a one-fight hiatus from Matchroom, who had been promoting him to link up with PBC when he fought Caleb Plant last November in his bid to become undisputed super-middleweight world champion. Canelo would stop the plant in eleven rounds to achieve undisputed super-middleweight title glory.

ESPN MX have reported that the terms of Alvarez’s deal are a three-fight promotional contract with a reported value exceeding $ 100 million, which will start in September with a contest against Jermall Charlo in a likely defence of his undisputed super-middleweight world title.

Eddie Hearn, who is out in New York promoting Edgar Barlenga’s Matchroom debut against Jason Quigley at the MSG theatre has stated that the move to PBC for Canelo is a good move for him.

Speaking to IFLTV, Hearn admitted that he does not have any opponents in the stable for Canelo to fight, particularly once the Bivol rematch negotiations collapsed. Hearn also believes that the move to fight Charlo is a good move for him which he knew about prior to Canelo’s announcement.

“I spoke to Canelo last night. We (Matchroom) have not got anything for Canelo. We haven’t made him an offer, and i knew that he was going to make a move towards the Charlo fight. I dont know the details of the multi-fight deal, which i did find surprising (regarding the length of the contract), but i do think it’s a good deal for him, in all honesty.

“He is at the stage now where he is at the closing stage of his career. We have done the last seven out of his last eight fights. That is because we had the right fights and opponents that he needed at the time

“We could not make the Bivol fight for him, and therefore, i do not have a fight for him. He is going to make his move, and i think it is a good move for him, in all honesty.”
