Rumors are circulating that Canelo Alvarez might have his next opponent lined up and it isn't one any of us expected. The WBC cruiserweight world champion Badou Jack is in talks to face Canelo Alvarez per Eddie Hearn via an interview from Boxing King Media.
Per talks from both, Jack's promoter, Amer Abdullah, and Matchroom Boxing CEO, Eddie Hearn, talks are underway as it appears the fight would take place in Saudi Arabia.
“Yes, I spoke to Prince Khaled about that fight," said Hearn to Boxing King Media. "I like the fight because I think Badou Jack was a super middleweight, you know. I don’t think Eddy Reynoso is rushing around that fight but I think it might have some legs.”
Abdullah is the head of the Skills Challenge Entertainment which represents Saudi Arabia's best interests in the sport of boxing essentially said the deal is almost done.
One possible issue could be the weight as alluded to by Abdullah. Who seemed to hint that one of the things that need to be ironed out will be the weight limit.
“Canelo Alvarez is the face of boxing and he wants to jump up to Cruiserweight," said Abdullah. "The only thing that’s sticking right now is where that weight is. The financial terms are agreed upon, the date is agreed upon, everything is there.”
This comes on the heels of news that David Benavidez versus Canelo Alvarez has hit a fork in the road, as talks have stalled.
