Canelo Returns In May 2023, But Expect A Tune-Up

Canelo Alvarez had a forgettable 2022. After being the consensus Boxer of the Year in 2021, he lost to Dmitry Bivol, and had a lackluster conclusion to his trilogy with Gennadiy Golovkin that was rather forgettable.

"My plan right now is to return in May. I'm going to start training in January and see how I feel after that," Alvarez stated when speaking to ESPN. "The idea is to return in May with a tuneup fight to see how I feel and then get the rematch against Bivol in September. That's the only thing I want for my career right now.”

So don’t expect a sexy name for Canelo in May, short and sweet. People I am eyeballing are Shane Mosley Jr., or the winner of Zach Parker vs. John Ryder. These could produce the type of fights that Canelo might want to return from an injury and then move forward toward a big fight.
