Chantelle Cameron vs. Katie Taylor 2: Preview, Prediction & Betting Odds

We are days away from the undisputed junior welterweight title bout between the champion Chantelle Cameron (18-0, 8 KOs) & Katie Taylor (22-1, 6 KOs). It’s the rematch to a fight they had earlier this year, in which Cameron came out victorious. This looks to be another close fight, with the winner being a toss-up between the undisputed champions from two different weight classes.

A WIN FOR CHANTELLE CAMERON MAKES HER A STAR

It’s hard enough to beat a top pound-for-pound fighter once, but twice takes a ton of talent. This is where Cameron steps in. She’s five years younger than Taylor, the undisputed junior welterweight champion and someone who is determined to reach greatness. Cameron got a taste of it when she defeated Taylor in May, but as close as the decision was, it took away from her enjoying the victory. Now that the rematch is just days away, the thought has to be that Cameron will try and stop Taylor during one of those moments when the undisputed lightweight champ is taking a breather.

Cameron will have to make Taylor exhaust all her energy early in the fight so that she can win the second half. If Taylor falls for the slugfest early, Cameron will then have to use her youth and stamina to take over and earn a clear unanimous decision victory.

ARE WE WITNESSING THE DECLINE OF KATIE TAYLOR?

It’s hard to ignore that Taylor is 37 and has been in some brutal fights with world-class fighters throughout her career. Taylor is a global star, and her popularity in many spaces is evident, which is why she has been able to headline arenas in different parts of the world. Having big fights consecutively has taken a little out of Taylor each time, and moving up in weight to fight Cameron in May didn’t turn out how she wanted it to.

So what does Taylor have to do differently this time? If Taylor worked on her conditioning during training camp and could avoid fading a bit late in the fight, she could pull out a split decision, automatically triggering the third fight as the public would demand it.

Although the first fight was a razor-sharp decision in favor of Cameron, the thought going into this one is that Taylor will squeeze out the decision in Ireland, making this into a trilogy that ends during the first half of 2024.
