Kell Brook tips surgical Terence Crawford to beat Errol Spence

Former world welterweight champion Kell Brook is in Bournemouth for the big Boxxer show that is topped by the cruiserweight title fight between WBO ruler Lawrence Okolie and challenger Chris Billam-Smith, but he took some time to talk about two of his old opponents fighting.

Terence Crawford and Errol Spence meet in Las Vegas on July 29 in a fight the sport has been waiting for to determine the best in the world at 147lbs.

Sheffield star Brook was beaten in Sheffield by Spence in 2017, and then lost to Crawford in Las Vegas in 2020, two huge bouts in his glittering 43-fight career.

“Of course I’m excited, I’ve been in with both of them,” said Brook. “To be honest with you, I think Crawford’s going to beat him. I think he’s been more active, Spence has been inactive, and I think Crawford has precision… He’s a surgeon, but I’m leaning towards Crawford.”

Brook has not fought since settling his domestic rivalry with Amir Khan last February and initially said he had retired, but he has been linked to fights with Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr since.

Of the welterweight super fight, Brook added: “I think styles make fights. Crawford’s a natural southpaw but it’s one of those where all of the world will be watching and I’m happy it’s happening. It was now or never. This is it. It’s happening, we’re all going to see it and I’m excited to see who No. 1 is.”

Brook was then asked whether he would fight again. He has been posting training videos, teasing a return, and was involved in an altercation with Benn last weekend.
