Bill Haney Calls for Ryan Garcia to Be Hit With Lifetime Ban From Boxing

Bill Haney has called for Ryan Garcia to be banned from boxing after Garcia tested positive for the substance ostarine ahead of his fight with Devin Haney, Bill’s son, on April 20 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Garcia scored three knockdowns while claiming a majority decision against his Californian rival and current WBC junior welterweight titleholder.

Garica then tested positive on two occasions for ostarine, from April 19 and 20.

On Garcia’s request, his B samples were unsealed and tested Wednesday and, as expected, returned positive results for ostarine.

Garcia’s fate now rests in the hands of the New York State Athletic Commission, which will adjudicate any suspensions and financial penalties. Sanctions also include the possibility of his win over Haney being overturned to a no-contest or having it changed to a disqualification.

Despite his “B” samples returning positive results, Garcia has maintained his innocence and has cited substance contamination.

“Clearly … there’s nothing you can do with this guy but get him out of the sport,” Bill Haney told TMZ.

“It’s a terrible thing … it’s a terrible thing for sports in general. It’s a terrible thing for boxing.”

Bill Haney added that he was unsure whether his son would ever be interested in rematching Garcia because of his behavior before and after the fight.

“You see me with my kids,” the elder Haney said. “I don’t know what to tell them. The Haneys – we’re fair. We believe in hard work, and I feel undermined. For [Garcia] to sign up to [test positive] and now to make a mockery of the sport, it’s just terrible.”
