Conor Benn (21-0, 14KOs) and Chris Eubank Jr ( 32-3, 23KOs) are reportedly set to finally face each other in the ring on June 3rd in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Wally Downes Jr of the Sun newspaper initially reported the news of this latest development of the Benn-Eubank Jr saga.
Benn - Eubank Jr was initially scheduled to take place in October of last year however, the contest ultimately fell apart along with the full card due to Conor Benn failing two VADA anti-doping tests. The bout was set to be a 157lbs catchweight fight which was to be held at London’s O2 Arena.
Benn had tested positive for Clomiphene twice, ultimately forcing the BBBofC to refuse to sanction the fight between Benn & Eubank Jr.
Conor has recently been cleared to return to the WBC welterweight rankings with the WBC stating in a ruling following a 270-word dossier by Benn’s legal team stating his defence. The WBC had stated that Benn had not willingly or intentionally taken the substance. Benn currently does not hold a BBBofC licence at the time of publication and refuses to cooperate with the board's investigation into the matter.
Eubank Jr following the fall-out of the Benn fight falling apart at the last moment, returned to action in January of this year against Liam Smith at middleweight. Smith defeated Eubank by stopping him in four rounds. There was a rematch clause in the original bout agreement, which had been activated by Eubank Jr however if reporting is to be believed, Smith will now have to explore other opportunities.
Conor has seemingly confirmed that the fight is happening judging by a recent tweet on Twitter after responding to IFLTV's reporting of the possibility of the fight taking place.
