Boxing fans and media continue to ask the wrong questions when it comes to Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez fighting Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez, as the two don’t fight in the same weight class anymore, and have a friendship outside of the ring.
Yet, the question was asked once again, because they’re two of the most famous fighters in the current landscape of the flyweight and super flyweight division respectively.
“I mean, we’ve talked about it before, between me and Teiken Promotions,” Rodriguez told DAZN’s Chris Mannix during Saturday’s telecast of Juan Francisco Estrada vs. Roman Gonzalez. “It’s a very hard fight to make just because we deal with the same promoter, Mr. Honda. I mean, like I said, it would be a hard fight to make. We respect each other to the fullest, and it’s a fight that’s very hard to make.”
Rodriguez promoter, Eddie Hearn, would like Rodriguez to stay at super flyweight and fight the big name fighters in the division, while “Bam” Rodriguez’s trainer, Robert Garcia, prefers his fighter at a lower weight.
This comes on the heels of Rodriguez’s magical year in which he outpointed Carlos Cuadras, and stopped Srisaket For Rungvisai, which had him mentioned as a possible fighter of the year nominee.
