On this day...Badou Jack made his pro debut

Badou Jack has become a three-division world champion, capturing titles in the super middleweight, light heavyweight, and cruiserweight divisions, but it all began on this day in 2009 when he defeated Maxim Nikonorov, via a four-round unanimous decision, in Sweden. The fight took place at Tidaholms Sport Hall, in Sweeden

Jack, who was born in Sweden would later move to the United States taking residency in Las Vegas, Nevada, as he would train at the Mayweather Boxing Gym during the end of Floyd Mayweather's dominance over the sport of boxing. In fact, Jack would even fight on the Floyd Mayweather versus Andre Berto undercard, as he defeated George Groves, who he was an underdog to, despite being the world champion and fighting in his adopted home of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Jack’s career is underrated greatness, not unlike the manner he conducts himself. Humility has always played a large role in his story, and sadly, it has also been the reason he has gone

Redemption.

Badou Jack was knocked out by Derek Edwards in the first round in 2014. During this time, Jack was signed to Mayweather Promotions, and given the heat Floyd Mayweather had, some of the backlashes fell upon his fighters. Jack was counted when he faced Anthony Dirrell but upset him to win the WBC super middleweight title.

Jack’s career arch was one of defying the odds. His fights with Lucian Bute (which later overturned to a disqualification win for Jack after Bute failed for a banned substance), James DeGale, and Adonis Stevenson were all draws.

Jack once referenced to this writer that ‘the politics of the sport of boxing’ played a factor in some of those decisions.

Jack, now 39 years old, has relocated to Dubai, as his last four fights have taken place in the middle east, and it is highly doubtful he ever fights again in the U.S.

Jack recently won the cruiserweight title stopping Ilunga Junior Makabu in the twelfth and final round, to pick up the WBC cruiserweight world title. He has been rumored to potentially defend that belt against Sergey Kovalev.
