Bob Arum: Eddie Hearn ought to be ashamed of himself

Callum Smith’s promoter Eddie Hearn came out firing at yesterday’s official press conference for his fighter’s world title challenge against Artur Beterbiev

Hearn addressed the media at the Center Videotron in Quebec City regarding an “atypical finding” in Beterbiev’s VADA test in December.

ProBox TV spoke to Beterbiev’s promoter Bob Arum in response to Hearn’s comments yesterday.

“It was ridiculous, despicable that happened yesterday,” Arum said in an exclusive interview. “Call Margret Goodman [President/Board Chairman – VADA], she will tell you what happened.

“You know, it was such a small trace amount that it probably comes naturally from the body. Therefore you test, and you test, and you test again. We can see that there has been no substance abuse.”

Under VADA regulations an “atypical” test result does not permit the bout to be cancelled contractually. An “adverse” test result would constitute the fight being cancelled or rescheduled until an investigation has been conducted.

“Boxing gets so much criticism from the public, we don’t need to raise issues which aren’t issues,” Arum added. “This makes the sport look bad. And Eddie ought to be ashamed of himself.”
