Nate Diaz's August Fight in Limbo
Last week it was announced that Nate Diaz would face Jake Paul on DAZN pay-per-view in August. Now that appears to be in limbo, as the New Orleans police according to Steven Marrocco of MMAFighting.com, a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Diaz on second-degree battery. This comes after a viral video surfaced of Diaz seemingly choking out on a man in-front of a bar. According to a simple google search, a second-degree battery charge is punishable with up to eight years in prison “with or without hard labor,” a $2,000 fine or both. This came on the heels of Chris Avila, a member of the Nick Diaz Academy, who is now boxing on some of these ‘influencer’ cards, fought a Misfits Boxing show in New Orleans on Friday night.
“There has been an arrest warrant issued,” said NOPD spokesperson Karen A. Boudrie when speaking to Marrocco of MMAFighting. “— he is not in custody.”
KSI Offers to Replace Nate Diaz for Jake Paul Fight
Not to let a good headline go to waste, one of the modern incarnations of Niccolo Machiavelli, KSI, a popular influencer, who has a bunch of widely successful internet business ventures that people follow closely did what he does - chime in on the internet. Once this hot button issue hit the pressers, KSI crafted a tweet to Jake Paul to not just say he’d fight Paul, but also increase his standing on social media platforms, and achieve the ultimate goal - which is getting people to talk about him.
Jake Paul Accepts KSI's Challenge
“Well, if that mean Jake won’t have an opponent in August…,” tweeted the influencer who is now a pro boxing known as KSI. “Then I’ll gladly come as the replacement after I KO Joe Fournier in May.”
Paul, who might end up running for president of the United States with his mastery of human emotion and ability to delegate power quickly took to the platform to use it as an opportunity for promotion for himself. As the shared, businessman accepted the challenge while doing his best to belittle KSI, who holds a win over his brother Logan Paul in a professional boxing match.
“Great,” tweeted Paul without missing a beat. “I accept you as the backup opponent. Fight is at 185. There are no rehydration clauses. Stay in shape and we will give you a call if needed. Thanks buddy for being so humble and committed.”
Nate Diaz's Legal Issues Could Pave the Way for Jake Paul
All this said, we have no clue what will happen to Diaz, as the fighter, who has always had a rowdy social life - should be able to compete in August, but the interaction served its purpose of getting people talking - and ‘hey, if this does serve as the bridge to make the mega-influencer fight between Jake Paul versus KSI, then so be it’.
