Anthony Joshua was 21lbs heavier than Jermaine Franklin when they weighed in for Saturday evening’s heavyweight fight at the O2 Arena in London.
For the occasion of his first fight under his new trainer Derrick James, Joshua, at 255.4lbs, was also considerably heavier than the 244.5lbs he weighed for his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, when he worked under Robert Garcia, and the 240lbs he was under Rob McCracken when fighting and losing to Usyk for the first time.
Franklin, at 234.12lbs, was significantly lighter than the 257lbs he weighed when fighting Dillian Whyte at the same venue in November. He was widely regarded to have been unfortunate to have lost via majority decision, and had since overhauled his lifestyle, contributing to his leaner, lighter frame.
