Matchroom Boxing have confirmed that the anticipated heavyweight encounter scheduled for August 12th between two-time unified heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua & Dillian Whyte has been formally cancelled.
The event, set to be held at London’s O2 Arena, has been cancelled due to Dillian Whyte failing a VADA-administered anti-doping test. No details as to when the test was conducted or what substance was detected at the time of publication.
Matchroom confirmed the cancellation of the fight between Joshua & Whyte via a brief statement.
Today, the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) informed Matchroom, the Association of Boxing Commissions and the British Boxing Board of Control that Dillian Whyte had returned adverse analytical findings as part of a random anti-doping protocol.
In light of this news, the fight will be cancelled, and a full investigation will be conducted.
At the time of publication, there is no current suggestion if a new opponent will be selected or if the event will still go ahead till Matchroom Boxing reveal more information which is expected.
