Anthony Fowler confirms retirement from boxing

Former team GB Olympian from the class of Rio 2016, Anthony Fowler, has officially called time on his boxing career and ends with a professional record of 16 wins against two defeats. Fowler will be remembered for his two contests with Scott Fitzgerald and Liam Smith, which were thrilling encounters and actioned filled, and something which characterised Fowler throughout his career.

Fowler as an amateur, participated in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and competed in the middleweight weight category. Fowler was defeated in the first round of the competition by Zhanibek Alimkhanuly, the current WBO middleweight world champion.

Fowler would claim a 2014 Commonwealth gold medal in the games, which took place in Glasgow, defeating Vejimder Singh in the middleweight final. He would also win an AIBA world amateur championship bronze medal in 2013 before his winning success on the international stage in Glasgow, which hosted the Commonwealth Games.

Anthony, who is 32, announced his retirement on social media and has not fought since February of 2022. Anthony stated his reasons for his retirement were due to him being more aware of the dangers of boxing regarding his health and that since having children, he wanted to see his children grow up without having to take punches to earn a living

Anthony has set up a well-known CBD business during his professional career. He has stated that he wishes to focus on his business interests moving forward in his life, and being open to helping the next generation of fighters coming through the ranks.
