Andrade Frustrated By Canelo’s Choice Of Opposition

Demetrius Andrade has had a whole career in which he has been avoided. The two-division weight classes world champion holding belts at 154 lbs, and 160 lbs, now is a 168 lbs fighter looking for another title, and more so a bigger challenge.

For years, Andrade has called for Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin, but his lack of star power and difficult style has seen him sitting on the sidelines more than he’d like. Andrade recently voiced his opinion on Canelo seemingly fighting John Ryder in 2023.

“Not saying John Ryder’s an easy opponent but come on man,” said Andrade when brought on as a guest for The Last Stand Podcast with Brian Custer. “How you gonna continue to call him the best or pound-for-pound when he’s fighting guys like that? You got David Benavidez, Demetrius Andrade, Jermall Charlo - you got guys that you should've been fought, not John Ryder.”
