ESPN & Top Rank return to Texas as they host a unified middleweight title fight live from the Fort Bend Epicenter. The WBO champion Janibek ‘Qazaq Style’ Alimkhanuly (14-0, 9 KOs) faces the IBF champion Vincenzo Gualtieri (21-0-1, 7 KOs). Alimkhanuly is forced to take on these types of fights against unknown fighters as the middleweight division is light on talent, and the other two champions are Premier Boxing Champions.
Alimkhanuly is now 30 years old and hasn’t been able to secure the big fights he’s desired. His last fight in May only lasted two rounds as he knocked out Steven Butler. Alimkhanuly needs better fights, which may mean moving up to super middleweight to get them. The oddsmakers favor him to win this fight, so it’ll be interesting to see what 2024 has in store for ‘Qazaq Style.’
Gualtieri is unknown to the typical fight fan as he has only fought in Germany so far in his career. With this being his U.S. debut, can Gualtieri score an upset and become a unified champion? He last fought in July and earned a unanimous decision victory over Esquiva Falcao (30-1, 20 KOs), which earned him the IBF strap.
