Efe Ajagba vs. Joe Goodall: Preview, Prediction & Betting Odds

Top Rank & ESPN present a heavyweight main event on Saturday night live from the Tahoe Blue Event Center in Lake Tahoe, CA. Efe Ajagba (18-1, 13 KOs) returns in an effort to get his name in the big fight mix next year as he faces Joe Goodall (10-1-1, 9 KOs) in an interesting ten-round heavyweight bout. Will Ajagba look dominant, or will Goodall pull off the upset?

IS THIS WHEN FANS FIND OUT WHETHER EFE AJAGBA IS READY FOR A BIG FIGHT?

The Ajagba experiment has been going on for a while now, and with him being managed by J-Prince, the opportunity to showcase his skills on TV has come more often than none. The problem is that Ajagba looks like he has regressed instead of progressing, which is never good for a heavyweight fighter. He seems confused about whether he wants to be a boxer or a knockout artist. Although he has gotten away with being unsure about his style against other fighters, he may have issues on Saturday night as Goodall has some momentum coming into the fight.

Ajagba must return to that scary power puncher that once made his opponent walk out of the ring before the fight began. That has to start this weekend, and when the bell rings for round one, Ajagba needs to surprise Goodall by jumping all over him and not allowing the Australian to get going. Ajagba must also stay busy with his left jab and land those power combinations often.

CAN JOE GOODALL COOK UP A BIG UPSET ON SATURDAY NIGHT?

It’s been an interesting year so far for Goodall as he came in as the B-side name heavyweight in July and stopped Stephan Shaw, who had never suffered a defeat in that manner. That woke everyone up on the 31-year-old from Australia looking to make a name for himself in the heavyweight division. His only defeat came in June 2022, as he dropped a unanimous decision against Justis Huni. It was the type of fight that woke him up, and now he knows what he needs to do to get the big wins.

On Saturday night, Goodall must keep that high guard tight early in the fight while also paying attention to counter-punching opportunities. This is where Ajagba is most vulnerable as he is slow with bringing his hands back and often has them low. Ajagba can get hurt if enough of a punch combination lands, so that will be Goodall’s opportunity to jump on him and try to stop him.

EFE AJAGBA VS. JOE GOODALL PREDICTION

It’s hard to rely on Ajagba to win as he’s been inconsistent. Given the current odds, this may sound like a bit of a long shot, but Goodall will put his punches together and stop Ajagba late in this fight around the eighth round. Goodall will give Ajagba the same problems he had with Iago Kiladze in December 2019. It will be another upset victory to add to the long list of them in 2023.
