Zurdo Ramirez to return in October

Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez is nearly set to make his 2023 debut. Ramirez one of the prominent fighters with Golden Boy Promotions, is seeing the final details on his next fight being wrapped up currently.

When speaking to ProBox TV News, Golden Boy Promotions President, Eric Gomez, explained when ‘Zurdo’ would return, as well as some more information.

“We are actually in the final process of finalizing his fight, he will be coming back in October,“ Gomez told ProBox TV News. “So we havåe been in negotiations with an opponent, and I can’t really say anything at this time, but he will be coming back in October.”

When asked for generalities about a possible opponent, Gomez kept it very professional but gave a tad bit more information.

“It is a well-known fighter,” further Gomez. “It is an ex-champion, but I just can’t talk about it…until the contract is signed.”

Ramirez was scheduled to return for a bout in Long Beach earlier this year, but came in well over the weight limit, so much so that his bout against Gabriel Rosado was canceled and Joseph Diaz Jr., versus Mercito Gesta, was elevated to the main event. The bout which was scheduled to take place in March was Ramirez’s first fight since losing for the first time as a professional. Ramirez had been outboxed by Dmitry Bivol prior to that.

“Yes, [Ramirez] will be fighting at cruiserweight,“ said Gomez. “Look, he is a big kid, he has been at that weight for a long-time, and sometime just your body betrays you. Just because you were able to make weight three months prior, four months prior, your body changes, and he learned that the hard way. It is behind him now, and he has been training hard. So we’re anticipating that we are going to get the best possible Zurdo that we have seen in the past."

Ramirez will be making his cruiserweight debut. Ramirez signed with Golden Boy Promotions in 2021, as Ramirez went on a three-fight knockout streak to start his run with the company before losing to Bivol.
