Vergil Ortiz Jr Suffers From Rhabdomyolsysis Again, Ortiz vs. Stanionis Postponed

Is this fight doomed? It certainly seems that way as the welterweight bout between Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Eimantas Stanionis, which was already rescheduled once, will now be postponed, yet again.

The fight that sat on the DAZN calendar for April 29th in Arlington, Texas, will no longer happen as Mike Coppinger of ESPN.com first reported the information, with no information on the type of injury.

It is nearly a year to the day when Ortiz had to withdraw from a fight last year in March as well when he was hospitalized with the same illness of rhabdomyolysis. Ortiz would return to the ring in August of that year.

“Ortiz Jr is expected to make a fun recovery and return to the ring later this year,” stated Golden Boy Promotions.

We have reached out to Rick Mirigian, Vergil Ortiz Jr.’s manager, for comment, as well as Vergil Ortiz Sr., but have not received any information at this time, but will update and inform you once we get word.

This marks the second delay of Ortiz vs. Stanionis as Stanionis had to undergo an emergency appendectomy earlier this year which pushed back the original fight date of March 18th.

“More information on the April 29th event will be announced shortly,” concluded Golden Boy Promotions on their social media blast that gave us the following info.
