Tank-Teofimo rumored as Davis' next possible fight

The world of boxing news has a new hot rumor that surfaced on Monday afternoon. After a subtle suggestion that Gervonta "Tank" Davis' next fight would be 'a big fight', along with the fact that Showtime executive Stephen Espinoza shot down the idea of it being Keith Thurman, we got a glimpse at what it might be.

As a media platform, TVBoxeola reported the following.

"Breaking: Teofimo Lopez and Gervonta Davis are in talks to fight for the WBO jr welterweight title on January 20th on Showtime PPV. ESPN would also telecast the event, according to sources," posted the platform today with an image of both fighters.

Teofimo Lopez, who is one of the best fighters of his generation and just defeated Josh Taylor to win the lineal title. Though Lopez is not called the 'undisputed champion' in the history books, he rightfully should be as he fought the man of the era in Vasiliy Lomachenko to win all four lightweight world titles, as Devin Haney had a secondary form of the WBC lightweight world title. Lopez would see his career go into disarray as personal life issues and as well as a loss to George Kambosos Jnr overshadowed his impressive achievements.

Gervonta Davis has been one of the most high-profile fighters in the sport, as he was spotlighted on Floyd Mayweather's pay-per-view cards at the end of his career. Davis is silently building up steam to look to be the face of boxing as he is seemingly giving Canelo an honest fight over who is more relevant although Tyson Fury might be bigger than both. Davis in his last pay-per-view outing knocked out Ryan Garcia in a fight that was a box office success. The fight in April marked his second fight of the year, and what seems to be his last of 2023 as outside-the-ring issues kept him out of the ring, and now he awaits a fight date.

If this were true, this would be a fight that would generate more interest than a previously rumored fight between Davis and Isaac Cruz in a rematch. Davis versus Lopez if it were to happen would be a statement fight as the winner of this fight would naturally need to face the winner of Devin Haney versus Regis Prograis, which would crown the best of the current era at junior welterweight.

That said, this is still just a rumor.
