Shakur Stevenson sees Tank Davis fight in near future

Shakur Stevenson, the undefeated two-division world champion, who is eager to fight for a world title in the lightweight division is confident that a showdown with the money man in the lightweight division Gervonta 'Tank' Davis is a fight that will occur soon.

In a recent podcast interview with 2nd Wind Podcast, Stevenson boldly predicted that we, the fight fans would see, "the biggest boxing fight in the world"., when he faces in the near future. However, many skeptics argue that Stevenson might find himself waiting for a longer period of time given two reasons. One of which is a cross-promotion issue between Premier Boxing Champions, the lead branch of putting on fights for Davis, whereas Stevenson is promoted by Top Rank Inc. The two have promoted fights together in the past with Tyson Fury versus Deontay Wilder, and Vasiliy Lomachenko versus Gary Russell Jr., but there have been more fights that haven't happened than have between the two. Also, Davis has been moved in a manner similar to a big business taking on big paying bouts, but bouts that Davis often has an advantage in, that said Davis can really fight.

“There’s only one fight [for me]," said Shakur Stevenson to 2nd Wind Podcast. [Stevenson vs. Gervonta Davis] is going to be the biggest boxing fight in the world when it happens. I can see it happening not too far in the future. I think Tank will sign that contract, and I’m going to sign the contract too,” about his belief that Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis will fight him."

Gervonta 'Tank' Davis has built a reputation as a money-making machine, even though some are harsh on his opposition of opponents such as Mario Barrios, Ryan Garcia, Isaac Cruz, and Leo Santa Cruz, one thing is for sure - Davis can really fight. Now the question becomes the legacy component for Davis' career, which Stevenson could be a major aspect of.

Stevenson's aspirations of facing Davis could be seen as naive, but another way to look at it is calculated. This year we have seen Gervonta Davis fight Ryan Garcia in a mega-fight and Errol Spence Jr face Terence Crawford in a blockbuster. These big fights no longer seem to be just 'a pipedream' anymore.

“It’s going to happen," said Stevenson. "I think it’s going to happen in the near future.”

Shakur Stevenson acknowledges that getting this bout could be an uphill battle. yet that isn't stopping him from calling for the fight. Stevenson, who is viewed by some as the best fighter in the lightweight division, despite not holding a world title is now awaiting a fall fight date, in which it would seem he would fight for an interim, vacant, or some form of world title as the undisputed lightweight world champion, Devin Haney, is moving up to the junior welterweight division to challenge WBC world champion, Regis Prograis.

Stevenson maintains the stance that this is the best possible fight that can be made at the lightweight division - and is a fight that will transcend the sport of boxing.

“Real boxing fans know this [fight] is crazy," stated Stevenson. "There’s no denying that I’m going to be one of the biggest superstars in the sport of boxing when it comes down to it. When [Gervonta Davis and I] clash, it’s going to be crazy."
