Shakur Stevenson Welcomes Devin Haney Fight

A dream fight for many fight fans is Shakur Stevenson versus Devin Haney, as the two lightweight fighters appear to be two of the brightest stars in the Top Rank stable currently. Haney, the undisputed lightweight world champion, and Stevenson, a two-division world champion looking for third world title his third weight class as well as one of the most decorated amateurs in recent memory.

With the two training in Las Vegas, Nevada, currently, one would think they might run into each especially potentially sharing the same gym, but so far that hasn’t been the case. Yet, it was Stevenson, who let Danny of ThaBoxingVoice know, he welcomes a fight with Devin Haney.

“It is no secret any weight class I go to I am a championship caliber fighter,” said Shakur Stevenson to Ringwalk Danny of ThaBoxingVoice. “Whatever belt is available for me to get a shot at being a world champion - that’s what I am going to do. That’s always the goal….it’s always about legacy to me.”

Stevenson who is in training camp for his upcoming April 8th bout against Shuichiro Yoshino, which will be a homecoming bout for the talented 2016 U.S. Olympic Silver Medalist will see him fighting for the mandatory in the WBC lightweight division. This will also be Stevenson’s first fight at lightweight, as he is already a two-division world champion, holding belts at featherweight and super featherweight.

“At the end of the day this is boxing…I moved up to 135 [lbs], and I am coming after the belts,” said Stevenson to Danny of ThaBoxingVoice. “I would love to be undisputed, [Devin Haney] is the top guy, the #1 guy at 135 [lbs], and were both signed to Top Rank…we are two top level fighters, we’re the best fighters with Top Rank, and as long as they’re paying us money [let’s fight].”

In an era of marinating fights until the right moment, it is clear Shakur Stevenson is fine with fighting Devin Haney at any point in the near future, since Stevenson seemingly wants to fight the best fighters, and is not worried about the timing of when it occurs.

“Devin [Haney] is a good fighter, I am a great fighter, and I can’t wait to prove to the world how great I am,” explained Stevenson. “We [could do it] right here in [Las] Vegas. I know [Devin Haney] is from Vegas, but Vegas is a boxing city, and I feel I could have a bunch of fans come to Vegas and show out, too.”
