Showtime Boxing returns on Saturday night as they will host a card live from the Chelsea Ballroom inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, NV. After Alberto Puello (21-0, 10 KOs) popped dirty for some performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs), Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero (14-1, 12 KOs) will now face 40-year-old Ismael Barroso (24-3-2, 22 KOs) for the interim WBA super lightweight title.
This isn’t the ideal matchup for Romero, but he will take it as the last time he was in the ring was May of last year when he was knocked out by Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. Romero built a solid resume which earned him the Davis fight. Although he suffered his first loss, Romero was able to stay in the public eye and keep his name buzzing amongst boxing fans. With his popularity being bigger than ever, Romero has managed to get this opportunity at super lightweight, which can mean even bigger opportunities down the road.

His opponent Barroso isn’t a knockout artist and hasn’t been that busy, with only one fight last year. Barroso has hung around mainly in the club show scene and shouldn’t be a significant threat to Romero.
